The Director, Fabric R&D will be responsible for achieving the business objectives as related to mill and vendor management, cost objectives, product development and innovation.
This is a full time position in Shanghai, China.
Duties and responsibilities:
Ensure merchandising team achieves objectives as related to cost, delivery and quality Responsible for fabric sourcing and development across all businesses intimates, activewear, sleep, denim and RTW.
Work across categories to develop on overall strategy for preferred mill relationships, capabilities and pricing
Own and manage core or special programs from end to end
Ensure all categories have well documented fabric and mill strategies aligned
Develop an integrated fabric development process with the categories which includes development of a digital and physical fabric library
Work with mill and vendor management teams and internal and external customers to ensure meeting platform fabrics goals and provide guidance on how the company can utilize strategic fabrics to maximum benefit.
Collaborate with teams across the organization to ensure development of effective relationships with mills and preferred vertical vendors and help enhance the quality of fabric supplier relationships towards strategic partnerships
Establish mill matrix, supervise regional fabric team to carry out mill evaluations to assess suppliers’ capabilities and capacities and where required recommend improvements
Work to enable increased collaboration between fabric R&D, mills and designers
Review high risk styles and highlight technical issues up front and guide for solutions
Lead color team to ensure mills achieve agreed color and shade continuity in bulk; follow up on non-conformance
Investigate fabric production problems and work with mills and garment factories to resolve on a timely manner.
Research innovations in fabrics and yarns liaising with the company Innovation Team
Work with category technical teams to develop innovative fabric/yarn/finishing solutions
Lead efforts in fabric/yarn development including the development/maintenance of the fabric library
Manage and plan resources to achieve goals and support ad-hoc initiatives
Train and develop fabric suppliers; investigate into new techniques and technology to achieve category requirements
Requirements and qualification:
Degree in Textiles or related field
15+ years of experience in fabric sourcing, R&D and development
Experienced dealing with mills in Asia
Strong fabric development expertise across the designated categories
Ability to manage, motivate and develop others
Ability to influence cross functional leaders and peers to achieve business results
Strong stakeholder management and brand communication
Ability to plan and lead complex negotiations
Excellent verbal, presentation, and especially written skills in English
Willing to travel frequently throughout the region
